Since its inception, SBSS has always been a student run event. In 2006, under the FAMU Student Government Association administration of Ramon Alexander and Phillip Agnew, Shevrin Jones, Secretary of Academic Affairs, along with Alexia Robinson and Allen Ahmadi, took the reins of planning the first Summit.

Even today, the SBSS staff is composed of a group of dedicated FAMU and Florida State University Black Student Union student leaders and volunteers who work for nearly a year to bring the nation's most innovative student conference. These student leaders exemplify what SBSS is all about and each represents their community and university well.
